Collagen

By Kathryn Dickinson

Collagen: a buzzword that sits among other health and wellness royalties like green juice, facial oils and kombucha, but what is it exactly and what makes it so important? According to Jessica, owner of Tonic Aesthetics and Apothecary and one of our favorite Denver Estheticians, "collagen is the main structural protein found in skin and connective tissue that helps a network of cells called fibroblasts create new cellular growth. As we age our collagen production gradually slows and begins to break down. Incorporating daily products and practices are essential in supporting collagen preservation and production."

Featured below are a few of Jessica's favorite AILLEA products and techniques that help to support all of that precious collagen that you want to help keep around for as long as possible!

Facial Massage

Getting a monthly facial is a great way to help keep your skin and collagen levels as healthy as possible, but if that's not in your budget using a cleansing oil to remove your makeup every night is a great way to give yourself a mini spa treatment from the comfort of your bathroom. Take 5 minutes to massage the oil into your face and neck in upward motions, being extra gentle around the eye area. This massaging technique helps to stimulate circulation and boost collagen production resulting in skin that has a lit from within glow.

 SPF

When it comes to collagen, SPF is a strictly preventative measure. Environmental factors like UVA and UVB rays create free radical damage causing a breakdown of collagen fibers that will lead to premature aging. Sun protection is crucial in any anti-aging skin care regimine.

Micro-Rolling

This technique is new to the AILLEA team, but boy has it been a big hit! A micro-roller is a gentle exfoliating tool that uses .2mm stainless steel needles to remove dull, dead skin cells from the top layer of the skin resulting in a firmer, plumper, smoother appearance. We recommend that you use the micro-roller 3-5 times a week. First, remove all makeup and cleanse the skin then apply your favorite serum (we listed a few of our favorites below) to your cleansed face and neck. Next, gently roll the Collagen Boosting Micro-Roller™ over skin vertically, horizontally and diagonally (rolling over each side of face, chin, lips, forehead and neck). For an added boost apply another layer of serum to your face and neck, then finish with the moisturizer of your choice.

Inner Beauty

Collagen rich foods can also help to slow down the aging process. Reaching for an antioxidant rich herbal supplement to add to tea, coffee, milk or a smoothie is an easy way to get that collagen preserving boost that we all crave. Moon Juice's Beauty Dust helps to preserve collagen protein, enhance elasticity of the skin, and aid the body in coping with stress.
